FIRST LOOK AT THE OLIVIA PALERMO X CIATÉ LONDON MAKEUP COLLECTION

EXCLUSIVE: FIRST LOOK AT THE OLIVIA PALERMO X CIATÉ LONDON MAKEUP COLLECTION
The It girl's first foray into cosmetics is as chic and luxurious as you'd expect.

Olivia Palermo has built an empire and 2.3 million Instagram following off of having really, really good taste. So it's no surprise that her first makeup collection for Ciaté London (where she serves as the brand's Guest Creative Director) is chic through and through—from the stingray embossing on the palettes to the rich formulas that glide on smoothly to the cool, classic-with-a-twist shades. The 11-piece fall collection launches at Sephora on August 14, but you can check it out early below.

Harper's BAZAAR: Tell us about your creative process—what did you really want to get right with the products?

Olivia Palermo: I wanted to make sure that the collection was wearable for every skin type and could nicely transition from day into evening. And just really sticking with a kind of neutral color palette. For the nail polish, I was thinking of really beautiful fall New England colors, sort of like if you were to drive up to Connecticut in October or November and you get those beautiful oranges and reds and purples and wine/burgundy colors. So that was the inspiration behind it and I really wanted it to be something that's almost like its own accessory. I was very detailed about what I was looking for with the packaging; I didn't want it to be another product that you tear apart and then throw it out into the garbage.

HB: Did you bring any examples for the packaging?

OP: It was more just taking a combination of different textures that I like. Leather, of course I love leather, and I love stingray. So combining the two and adding those gold elements—I always love a great gold accessory.

HB: Are you mostly inspired by your travels or do you look to runway makeup for ideas?

OP: I think it's a little bit of everything. I definitely take inspiration from runway trends but also throughout my travels, I see editorials all over in all of the different publications. But it's always great to have two inspirations, one that has more of an editorial purpose and one for more of an everyday, wearable approach.

HB: What's your favorite product in the line?

OP: I really love the bronzer/blush duo. I feel like purses these days are so small that you can never put an actual compact in your bag, so I wanted to take one compact and add them both in.

HB: What else is always in your bag?

OP: I always have Elnett with me—you never know when you need Elnett. I carry double-sided tape, too.
